Self-care is the unique, intentional practice of how you take care of your mental, physical and emotional self.
At some point in our existence we experience the stress and impact of a busy, modern lifestyle and recognize a need to slow down and look after ourselves.
Sometimes we’re able to recognize stress immediately and in other circumstances, we become conditioned to tolerating high amounts of stress that makes it feel normal, yet prolonged exposure to stress can have a negative, and worst case, devastating impact on our health.
Because stress affects us in different ways it makes self-care an extremely effective preventative measure to support our overall wellbeing. Given our hectic schedules, self-care doesn’t attract the attention it deserves and is often last on a very long to-do list!

When self-care is chosen as a mechanism for healing after a stressful event rather than as a daily practice there is a greater need for a more targeted and concise self-care plan.
It’s important to view self-care as an enjoyable act of self love rather than as simply another thing to do. When we regularly practice self-care we give ourselves love out of desire for our own happiness and longevity. And this is the highest form of healing we can give to ourselves.
At the end of the day nothing is more important than your health and wellbeing. Only you can choose how you live your life and how you take care of yourself.
